The committee and members of NIFSA would like to thank all the anglers that took part in our 7th annual 2 dayer open shore competition. 41 anglers took part in the 2 sessions and nearly everyone was lucky to catch fish on both days. Headquarters for the event was the Curran Court in Larne who looked after our every need and very kindly donated their conference room for the pre draw and prize giving
Waterfoot beach was the first venue that was fished on Saturday from 4pm-9pm and it didn’t disappoint living up to its reputation of being Northern Ireland's top competition beach. After a brief deluge and mini tornado that swept the beach things settled down and angler started catching steady. A couple of anglers had 40 plus fish and the mean average between all anglers worked out at 15 fish. Main species was flounder with late night dogs building bigger points for some.
Benone beach was the Sunday venue and was fished from 10am-3pm. The start of a building wave surge did not help and even with an offshore wind the wave height built to over 8ft. This had an unsettling effect on the fish and catches were well down on what was expected. However some nice turbot were landed to 33cm and average catches were around 3-4 flounders.
Results of the competition have been put up on the previous post on this page and we all wish to congratulate the winners and in particular overall winner Barry Platt. It’s good to see a federation member winning it again.
We would also like to thank the whole committee for organising the event and making sure it went smoothly and to Belfast Angling Centre, Pure Fishing and Tronix who kindly supplied all tackle prizes.
Next year we will be going a good bit bigger when we will be having quite a few anglers fishing from the continent. We hope that all anglers that fished this year enjoyed themselves and will come back again next year.
