This weekend saw the coalfish leg of our ongoing species hunt where anglers fish for a selected species over a weekend.
As seems to be the case recently this weekend turned into "a whole handlin". Lots of the beaches were still heavily weeded following recent storms and big tides coupled with easterly winds last night in particular made a lot of the rock marks inaccessible. Coalfish were also thin on the ground with anglers reporting lots of dogs, pollack, codling, flounder, pout and even schoolie bass but everyone struggled to find coalfish.
Sunday proved the better of the day's with eleven anglers eventually registering the target species.
Top five anglers were:
Andrew Ryder 49cm
Drew Ferguson 39cm
Barry Platt 39cm
Paddy O'boyle 34cm
Gareth Bell 33cm
