This weekend saw the final leg of our species hunt league, a competition format where anglers target a certain species over 48hrs.
We started in May and worked our way through the year targeting plaice, ballan wrasse, pollack, conger, three bearded rockling, coalfish and flounder.
This was a particularly difficult year for Summer shore angling in N.I with very wet and windy conditions combined with fish often appearing to be non exsistant when we were looking for them. The best example of this being the coalfish hunt where only two very small fish were recorded.
Paul Hill had an excellent league winning four legs and coming second in a fifth but he blanked the three beard and coalfish legs.
Only Barry Platt managed to catch all seven of the target species which ultimately led to him winning overall.
Top four anglers for 2024 and winning tackle prizes sponsored by Belfast Angling Centre / Mckees Angling Centre
were:
1st Barry Platt
2nd Paul Hill
3rd Stephen Hodge
4th Paddy O'boyle
